Supporting Human and Civil Rights Through The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA)

Human beings all over the world fundamentally have the right and freedom of speech, assembly, and association among others. Whereas this is true, there is still a huge number of individuals more so those from marginalized groups such as immigrants who are still deprived of such basic rights and freedom.

However, with the many civil organization groups around, the situation is a little easier. One organization that is helping immigrants families in California settle in well is The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).

CHIRLA is a lead agent of the many immigrant families living within the larger California area. The main agenda of CHIRLA is to have a society that is all inclusive. CHIRLA came into being after the implementation of the 1986 Act- the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

This act sought to make it illegal and unconstitutional to employ workers without any legal documents as they would easily be violated and abused at work.

Currently, CHIRLA executes its responsibilities by changing how the public views different civic and human rights. In addition to this, the group is also involved in the formation of policies that will help better the lives of its citizens.

Like any other non-profit organization, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) heavily relies on the support of wealthy individuals and organizations such as the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund for funding.

About Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund

As human and civil rights groups continue to take center stage in the fight for equal representation in the society, funding remains one of the major factors that determine whether this is a success or not.

One of the funding organization that has been committed to ensuring that the objectives of civil activist groups are attained is the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. In addition to providing funding to civic groups, Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund has also been actively involved in supporting the civic participation and freedom of speech of the marginalized immigrant groups in the wide Arizona area including the “la linea fronteriza” that operates along the border.

The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund was established out of a compensation amount that was awarded to Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin after their illegal and unconstitutional arrest and detention by Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County.

Mr. Lacey and Larkin are bold reporters who were keen on exposing the illegal and unlawful activities that were being committed by the Sheriff in particular on the immigrants’ community around the Arizona area. As a result of the unlawful arrest, these two journalists sued the county and upon successful determination of their case were awarded $3.75 million that was later dedicated to fighting for the civic rights of the immigrants.

Civic and human rights violation of immigrants continue to be witnessed in all over the world today. However, thanks to the contributions of activist groups such as the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund and CHIRLA, there is hope for a permanent solution soon.

What Does An Open Society Actually Mean?

To simply put it, an open society is one that tolerates the views, beliefs and practices of others. The only complication is that a world of people with different views and ideas find it hard to cohabit. Instead, most political, social and economic issues revolve around the fact that we don’t agree or respect what others believe.

It’s this dynamic that organizations like the Open Society Foundation tackles and for good reasons. Where humanity today is a great example of how far the humankind has come. But, there is still a lot more work to do. Until that work is done, open society theories must prevail. It so happens that society’s only hindrance is the respect we have for others. Thor Halvorssen Has Built A Massive Human Rights Organization From The Ground Up

There many people in the world today that don’t have access to the basic rights that people in the western world often take for granted. These violations of basic liberties and rights occur in numerous regions of the world. Human rights violations can take different forms. In some cases, governments are working to prevent the atrocities. However, in other cases, there is little being done at a governmental level. Human Rights Foundation believes that all individuals should have fundamental human rights, and intervention is always advised in the case of human rights violations. Human Rights Foundation works to improve the civil liberties of anyone who needs it, and they do so regardless of the political situation. In fact, they have even worked to help people in one of the world’s most politically oppressed and isolated nations, North Korea.

Human Rights Foundation was founded in 2005 by Thor Halvorssen. Thor Halvorssen started Human Rights Foundation, because he is strongly opposed to any form of violation of civil liberties. He believes that all people should have certain universal rights, regardless of the country that they live in. Prior to Human Rights Foundation, Thor Halvorssen has worked in other ways to promote human rights.

He has developed this philosophy, due to his own life experiences. He grew up in a country where some questionable incidents have taken place. As a Venezuelan, he saw oppression with his own eyes. Halvorssen’s father worked for the police, and he was given the task of getting information on drug cartel members. The plan was to investigate, and catch criminals involved with the cartel. Unfortunately, Halvorssen’s father ended up thrown in jail. The legal system jailed him in a corrupt scheme that was aimed at protecting cartel members. The International Society For Human Rights was able to free him from imprisonment. Halvorssen’s mother fell victim to a shooting incident during a protest.

Workers for the Human Rights Foundation have successfully assisted some of the world’s most oppressed people. Even the oppressed citizens of North Korea have not been out of reach to the Human Rights Foundation. In future years, Human Rights Foundation will continue to make more of a difference in the world. Many more people will be able to have increased freedom, due to the hard work of Thor Halvorssen’s organization.
